Macau International Airport

Arriving in Macau International Airport

If you are arriving in Macau by plane, you will touch down at the Macau International Airport (Aeroporto Internacional de Macau) in Taipa, indicated on the map as "1". The airport terminal and control tower are located on the eastern end of Taipa island while its runway is located offshore on reclaimed land. After clearing immigration and customs, you have the option of taking the bus or taxi to leave the airport.

The first time I arrived in Macau, I took the taxi. It costs around MOP$50 to go between the airport and downtown Macau (indicated on the map as "2"). Subsequently, I learned to take the bus. The same journey by bus only cost MOP$3.30.

Bus No. Bus Route Bus Fare Time
MT1 Macau International Airport to Downtown Macau (Avenida da Praia Grande and Rua MOP$3.30 07:00-09:10
16:00-19:10
MT2 Macau International Airport to Downtown Macau (Avenida da Praia Grande and Rua MOP$3.30 07:00-10:00
16:00-20:00
AP1 Macau International Airport to Border Gate (Portas do Cerco) MOP$3.30 06:30-24:10

Hotel Grand Lisboa is the most striking and prominent
landmark of downtown Macau. Use it to get your bearings
if you are taking the bus.

Taking the Bus from Airport

The following table shows the main buses that you can take from Macau airport. Most people take either the MT1 and MT2 buses, which go to downtown Macau, or the AP1 bus, which goes to the Border Gate (indicated on the map as "3").

The most prominent landmark in downtown Macau is Hotel Grand Lisboa. Use it to get your bearings. If your hotel is located anywhere within downtown Macau, it should be within walking distance of Hotel Grand Lisboa. If you plan to take the bus, make sure you find out the location of your hotel before arriving.

Bus services are provided by the two main operators, Transmac and TCM.

Taking the Taxi from Airport

Taking the taxi from Macau International Airport is quite straightforward. Coming out of the Arrival Hall, just look for any available taxi at the awaiting Taxi Stop. There are two main taxi operators, and their taxis are in either yellow or black. In any case, the flag off rate is the same, MOP$11. Thereafter, the charge is MOP$1.00 for every 180 meters. There's often a surcharge of MOP$ per piece of luggage. Expect to spend about MOP$40-50 for a trip from the airport to downtown Macau.
